Meet DTS Ambassador Cait Miers…

Where are you in the world?

Currently on the Mornington Peninsula in Vicco. Home!

How do you follow your bliss all year round?

Mainly try and follow the summer! Or just make sure I get some breaks here and there on the coast!

When did the inspiration for Washed Elegance first come about?

This subject of female surfing will forever be my number one thing to shoot, so I really wanted to kickstart it this year. I shot like crazy this year, in and out of the water, building a body of work that showed the feminine style of female surfing. I’ve always wanted to do a book but honestly didn’t think it’d happen this soon! I kinda just went for it!

If fear ever shows up in your life, how do you move passed it?

Kick it in the face! Haha nah, I’ve got fears, everyone does, but I just try and work through them and move on. No point in holding onto something!

Why do you love what you do?

It gives me freedom and happiness. I get to express myself and my views and create fun photos and looks that inspire people. Capturing the beauty of the ocean or just the raw existence of people and things is a blessing each and every day for me.

What’s one of the biggest risks you’ve taken, and how did it feel to go for it?

I’d probably have to say the book. It was one of those things where I didn’t know how well received it would be. But in the end I kinda felt like why not, I’ve got the content and the support around me to fulfill my dreams, so I thought there’s no better time than now!

Tell us a time when something totally synchronistic happened?

I believe that everything happens in a way that’s meant to teach us something, that we are meant to grow from each experience we get tested with in life. I think running into old friends or family that you haven’t seen in years in random places is fascinating. But I don’t think it’s coincidence, it happens as a way to force you to think about certain things or people, rekindle connections etc.

What advice could you give to someone who knows what they love to do, but haven’t gone for it?

Don’t hold back! We’ve only got one shot at this life so make the most of your opportunities. Believe in yourself, have confidence in your work and people will be drawn to you!
