Rad Livin’: Meet Anna Ehrgott

Tuesday // May 27 // 2014

Anna is adventurous, humble and full of light. She’s the girl you call who would drop all plans for a road trip up the coast, any time of the year. She’s a go-getter, surfer and nature-lover.

She paired her eco-surf lifestyle with her creative passions into an entirely eco-friendly brand, Sagebrush Board Bags. The bags are made of half coffee bean sack, half thick fabric and all of the fabrics are upcycled or vintage.

Meet Anna Ehrgott…

Where are you in the world?

Right now I’m in Topanga Canyon with my dog Gemma. Topanga is a small town hidden behind Los Angeles’ hills in California. I divide my time between a few towns.

How do you follow your bliss all year round?
Following the shine of the sun, surfing, travel, and nature all bring me bliss.

When did the inspiration for Sage Brush Board Bags first come about?

Sagebrush started off as just making a few board bags for myself, then some for friends, then friends of friends, then quitting my day job and doing this full time now.

If fear ever shows up in your life, how do you move passed it?

Fear has definitely been an obstacle, starting a business is the second scariest thing I’ve ever done (first being 12ft+ J.bay). You really have to devote everything to your business for it to work. Which is great, it’s satisfying and it’s worth it, but it’s terrifying, and there’s endless amounts of things to learn and leaps to leap.

Where is your favourite adventure spot?

This is so hard! South Africa has so many amazing places. The Transkei is probably my favorite. California has some stunning places too.. and Oregon, the Channel Islands, Baja and the entire continent of Africa hold special places in my heart.

Why do you love what you do?

The freedom. I can pick up and take off for a week or two, I can surf all day if it’s good then sew all night. And the creativity, I love picking out fabric, collaborating with friends, shooting photos, and taking surfboards everywhere. Sagebrush is a helluva lotta fun and combines everything I love.

What advice could you give to someone who knows what they love to do, but hasn’t yet gone for it?

Buy airplane tickets and don’t make too many plans. Watch the sunrise and leave your phone at home some days. Devote a bit of time each day to thinking and reflecting. It helps you figure out what’s actually important to you. From there just do it, if it’s something you love, people will back it. Everything takes time but if you put energy into it, it will give you something in return. Even if it’s just an amazing learning experience.
